Postcrossers to have their official Czech postage stamp

Czech Post decided to support the worldwide postcrossing movement by issuing their official postage stamp. It came out last week and philatelists as well as other customers could buy it, e.g. at the postcrossers’ meeting at the Collector 2015 fair held on the exhibition grounds in Prague-Letňany on Saturday, 05 September.

Czech Post is not the first postal service in the world to issue stamps and postcards dedicated to postcrossing, but it is the first postal service to consult the stamp with the organizers of this movement. The founders were given the opportunity to design the stamp in a way most attractive to postcrossers. Maria Nogueira, the designer of the stamp issued by Czech Post, originates from Portugal where the entire idea was born. The stamp has the face value “E”, corresponding to the CZK 25 postage fee to European countries. In combination with another CZK 5 stamp, it can be sent overseas or to non-European countries.

To put it very simply, postcrossing means exchanging of postcards. The people behind the idea of combining the world by means of post so that everyone would have the opportunity to exchange postcards with random users from all over the world, were Paulo Magalhães and Ana Campos from Portugal. The originally simple idea gradually grew and attracted further enthusiasts. The purpose of the project is that for each postcard you send you get another postcard, so that you can add very interesting collector’s items to your collection.
