The Postal Museum to receive the 2014 Gloria Musealis Award for an extraordinary project of the year

The 2014 Gloria Musealis Awards were announced at a ceremony held in Smetana Hall of the Municipal House in Prague on Thursday, 14 May 2015 at 2 p.m. The Postal Museum together with the partnering institutions received the 2014 Special Award proposed by the Honorary Committee of the Gloria Musealis in the category Museum Project of the Year (pdf, 992kB) for the project The Great War.

The partnering institutions included the Technical Museum in Brno, the National Technical Museum, the Museum of Military History Prague, the Museum of the City of Brno, the Moravian Land Gallery, the Konopiště Castle, the Moravian Gallery in Brno, and the National Museum. The nine memory institutions created their project to fully mark the hundredth anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War. They issued a joint catalogue and launched a central website with links to dozens of organized events. The committee appreciated both the extent of the project and the overall level of the organization and collaboration between the institutions. The Postal Museum presented the exhibition Postal Services during the Great War as part of the project. I am writing to you from the frontline… 

The Gloria Musealis’ aim is to inform the public about top performances in the museum industry, such as the creation of exhibitions and new expositions, presentation of museum collections in professional publications, rescuing and opening of buildings and sites of our cultural heritage. Awards are granted in the three main categories - Museum Exhibition of the Year, Museum Publication of the Year, and Museum Project of the Year. There were 11 exhibitions, each according to its own museum, held to provide a number of views of the war events.
