Same-Day Parcel Delivery - a new project of the Czech Post

Same-Day Parcel Delivery is a new project launched by the Czech Post following the success of its Afternoon Delivery pilot.

This pilot covers delivery of certain kinds of mail, such as Insured Parcel with a declared value up to CZK 10 thousand. During the pilot stage, the mail will be carried and delivered for the standard price of Insured Parcels (see Pricing of Insured Parcel). Services in this "express" regime are currently available at six post offices in Prague. "The Czech Post has been improving its services for customers on an ongoing basis. It is the right course, as proved by the Afternoon Delivery pilot project. We have therefore decided to try a project of delivery of parcels on the same day when the customers post them at their post office. The first days of operation of this pilot showed us that the rate of success in delivering this kind of mail can be higher than 70 per cent," said Czech Post's Director General Marcela Hrdá, adding that she considered it as a very good result.

How does it work?

Mail for required same-day delivery is accepted at certain Prague's post offices by the latest acceptance time (10 a.m.). The mail is collected at the post offices, processed and sent by a special train operated by the Czech Railways to the destination regional capital (so far only Brno, Plzeň or Ostrava) where it enters the afternoon delivery process and is delivered to the addressee the same day.

Further extensions

Further extensions to the pilot project are planned for January 2011 in order to cover all regional capitals; transport of mail in the other direction (mail posted at regional capitals and delivered to addressees in Prague); and improved availability of the service in Prague (increased number of posting offices). Further plans also include collection of mail at the sender's premises.
