Special Easter handstamp of the Czech Post

Personnel at the Post Office in Kraslice (in Czech: Easter Egg) cancel up to 20 thousand Easter postcards with a special Easter handstamp every year as part of the commemorative handstamp programme of the Czech Post offering special Christmas, Valentine and Easter handstamps.

Kraslice Easter handstamps have numerous fans, both locally and abroad. The post office personnel cancel 10 to 15 kg of letters every day. Some people are able to send up to 30 cards in one envelope to be cancelled. The post office uses two handstamps: one would not be enough to cover the demand.

The 2011 handstamp features an Easter egg designed by engraver Miloslav Bláha. People love Easter handstamps: they have been regularly among the prize winners in the Most Beautiful Handstamps.

How can I get an Easter handstamp?

Write the address of the recipient on the card to be cancelled and stick the appropriate stamp(s) on the card. Put the card into an empty envelope. Stick again the appropriate stamp(s) on the envelope and mail it to the address: Velikonoční pošta, 358 01 Kraslice. The card will be stamped with the handstamp and remailed to the addressee.

Only cards received from March 23rd to April 29th will be stamped with the handstamp.

Commemorative handstamps plus

Every year we design about 60 commemorative handstamps. The handstamps are special because they are used only for several days. You can find a list of past and future handstamps on our website at Commemorative handstamps.
