On request from a legal entity, data mailbox No. 600,000 was set up yesterday at 11:11 a.m. The Data Mailbox Information System has been in operation in the Czech Republic since 01 July 2009. It provides safe and simple communication and saves money and time of its users.

Five years ago, the Ministry of the Interior as the administrator and Czech Post as the operator started a unique project of communication of individuals, businesses and entrepreneurs with the public administration and vice versa. The users of these free data messages saved over five billion CZK since the start of the project.

Data mailbox users can use further services such as using their data mailbox login details to access the electronic portal of Czech Social Security Administration or the information mailbox of their revenue office, or obtaining free extracts from public registries via CzechPOINT@home.

Data mailboxes provide their users with clear benefits. There is no need to fit into the opening hours of public authorities or of post offices any longer. It is only up to the users to send or receive an important official message from their computer or mobile phone. They can do so even at midnight right from their living room or from their notebook during a seaside holiday.

Data mailboxes are activated free of charge. The easiest way to apply for a data mailbox activation is to visit a Czech POINT outlet. Data mailboxes that are to be set up by law are set up automatically without any need to apply for them.

• Over 207 million data messages were sent by 28 July 2014;
• The users saved over 5 billion CZK;
• The number of data mailboxes set up for public authorities, legal entities, individuals and entrepreneurs has already reached 600 thousand;
• Up to 300 thousand messages per day, or over 6 million per month, are sent;
• The average success rate of delivery (at the moment the user logs into the mailbox) exceeds 97%. 

The main trend in the use of data mailboxes in 2013 was a continuous increase in the number of users - individuals and entrepreneurs. Unlike the declining share of legal entities in the total number of data mailboxes, the share of entrepreneurs has been on the rise, from 2% in 2012 to 10% in 2013.

A data mailbox is an electronic storage place intended for official communication of individuals and businesses with public authorities, for communication between individuals and businesses or between public authorities. Data mailboxes are set up by law for public authorities and legal entities registered in the Commercial Register. Entrepreneurs and individuals, and newly also attorneys at law and tax advisors, may apply for a data mailbox.
