A profit of CZK 306 million and operating revenues of CZK 20,183 million. Such is the balance sheet of Czech Post for 2012.

It is positive for Czech Post that in the past year it maintained its overall revenues above the level of CZK 20 billion despite the clear downward trend in revenues from traditional postal services (ordinary letters, registered letters, money orders) in the recent years.

„The substitution for letter mail in the past year has meant a further revenue decline by CZK 470 million; however, we were able to compensate it with revenues from newspaper and magazine distribution and parcel services, together with a significant increase in income from the sale of products of our alliance partners,“ said Czech Post’s Director General Petr Zatloukal. Revenues from agency activities alone grew by CZK 299 million year-on-year thanks to new contractual parameters negotiated with partners and the successful sale of supplementary pension scheme contracts in the second half of the year.

„The total profits were also due to the year-on-year increase in the revenues from ICT services. The key contribution in this area was the income from the administration and development of the communication infrastructure of the public administration system as well as from the EKIS (Energy Consultancy and Information Centres) projects and launch of the Integrated Rescue System,“ added Petr Zatloukal.

Worse than last year’s results? Appearances are deceptive.

The profits dropped by CZK 113 million as compared to 2011; however, the 2011 figure included a one-off income from the national census held that year. „If extraordinary influences are adjusted for, the company has been making profits of around CZK 300 million for several years already. There are also other facts which affected our performance and which make me consider the previous year as successful, such as a substantial year-on-year increase in investments (from 1.14 billion in 2011 to 1.6 billion in 2012) or the 1.6% growth of the average salary of nonexempt employees,“ commented Zatloukal.
