The third 2016 Most Beautiful Stamp of the World comes from the Czech Republic

At the ceremony held at the 2016 World Stamp Exhibition in Madrid on Thursday, 2 November 2017, Czech Post’s representatives received the award for the third most beautiful stamp in the category “Hand Engraved Plates” for the commemorative stamp from the series “Works of Art on Postage Stamps: František Tichý (1896–1961).” The competition included Latin American, Spanish, European, Japanese and U.S. stamps.

The third most beautiful stamp of the world, engraved by Václav Fajt, came out on 9 November 2016. The designer used a theme from the 1933 painting “Clown with monkey” by František Tichý. The painting is currently displayed at the National Gallery in Prague. The CZK 38 stamp was printed by five-colour recess printing from flat plates.
