Starting from March, parcels will be measured rather than weighed

Czech Post as the leader on the Czech parcel market is improving its services in order to meet the needs of its customers. We deliver 4 out of every 10 parcels sent in the Czech Republic. The forthcoming fundamental change in our parcel services is to improve the efficacy of our logistic processes and improve the quality of our delivery services.

Starting from 1 March 2019, our parcel policy is going to be changed by replacing the method of price calculation depending on the weight of the parcel by a dimension-based model. The longest dimension of the parcel will now decide how much the customer will pay to send the parcel. The new classification system based on the longest dimension of the parcel includes the following categories: S (up to 35 cm), M (up to 50 cm), L (up to 100 cm), and XL (240 cm). The new pricelist is available on our website.

Starting from 1 March 2019, a new application, Parcel Posting, will also be available online. Our customers can visit the website www.poslatbalik.cz to fill in the address details in the online posting form. No paper posting form will be necessary. They can also print an address label to stick on their parcel. This will save their time they would otherwise have to spend at the post office counter. They will also be rewarded by an attractive discount for the online posting of data. Holders of our Customer Card will be granted another discount of CZK 10. The card can be obtained free of charge online through our website https://www.zakaznicka-karta.cz/.

Starting from 1 March 2019, well-packed and easy-to-handle parcels will also cost less than non-standard parcels. The main idea behind this change is to improve the sorting and transportation processes. Among other advantages, standardised packaging, including solid wrapping and regular shape, makes it easier to handle the parcel during transportation and more parcels can be carried in one transportation cage. Non-standard parcels will newly cost more.

A price comparison using the previous weight-based model and the new dimension-based model cannot be made due to the different parameters of the different types of parcel products. For example, a customer who is a Customer Card holder and sends a Parcel Delivery To Hand consignment with the longest dimension of up to 35 cm, with online posting of data, will newly save at least CZK 16. On the other hand, larger parcels will newly cost more.
